UCI Rankings Riders Update | Mathieu van der Poel overtakes Mads Pedersen to become Tadej Pogacar's closest chaser

Mathieu van der Poel headlines this week's UCI rankings update, having shown great form at the Renewi Tour where he was very aggressive and scored good results. In the year-long rankings he is now second behind Tadej Pogacar, overtaking Mads Pedersen in the process.

In the 2025 rankings we see the surge of Mathieu van der Poel, not gaining positions but coming substantially closer to Mads Pedersen after winning a stage and finishing second at the Renewi Tour, bringing in 400 points exactly. Tadej Pogacar remains in first place followed by Pedersen who does not even have half the points of the Slovenian; whilst Isaac del Toro and Jonas Vingegaard maintain their places in the Top5.

Whilst this is set to change during the coming weeks due to the end of the Vuelta a España, the Top10 remains the same with Wout van Aert, Oscar Onley, João Almeida, Florian Lipowitz and Kévin Vauquelin closing out the last spots in the 10 best. Arnaud de Lie is now 15th here, whilst barely cracking the Top50 on the previous update.

In the year-long rankings Pogacar continues to have well over double the points of his closest chaser, but that is now Mathieu van der Poel, not Mads Pedersen. Wout van Aert and Primoz Roglic maintain their positions in the Top5 followed by Isaac del Toro, Remco Evenepoel, Jonas Vingegaard, Oscar Onley and Ben O'Connor.

The big question is how much will Jonas Vingegaard soar up the rankings over the coming weeks, specially if he wins the overall classification at the Vuelta a España where there alone he could potentially net 1100 points.
