The transfer market is already stirring ahead of 2027 and one of the most advanced moves points to the continued presence of
Florian Vermeersch at
UAE Team Emirates - XRG. The Belgian, a key cog in the team’s machine, is reportedly close to extending his contract for several more seasons.
The highly likely departure of Jhonatan Narváez has forced the Emirati squad to act.
The 27-year-old has been fundamental to Tadej Pogacar’s brilliant start to the season, playing an active role in marquee wins at Strade Bianche 2026, Milano–Sanremo 2026, and the Tour des Flandres 2026.
But his contribution goes beyond teamwork. Vermeersch has also delivered on his own account, with
podiums at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2026 and E3 Saxo Classic 2026, plus seventh at the Belgian Monument, where he animated the race from the Molenberg in the decisive selection.
According to
WielerFlits, the deal between both parties is already done. Vermeersch would extend his commitment "for at least three more years," a clear sign of confidence from the team led by Mauro Gianetti.
One decisive factor in the talks was the guarantee of greater leadership opportunities in the spring classics, a role he has already begun to assume. His fifth place at Paris–Roubaix 2025 underpins that growing ambition within the team.
A young core with ambitions of dominance
If the renewal is confirmed, Vermeersch would become part of UAE’s core with a deal secured until at least 2029. Alongside him, riders such as Tadej Pogacar, Isaac del Toro, and Jan Christen already have their futures tied down, as do Spanish prospects Adrià Pericas and Pablo Torres.
The Emirati team’s strategy is clear: consolidate a solid, young, and competitive block to extend its dominance on the international calendar over the coming years.
In that context, retaining Vermeersch is more than just another renewal. It is a firm investment in a rider who has proved decisive both in service of his leader and when given the freedom to chase his own opportunities.
