Trek - Segafredo general manager
Luca Guercilena has returned to the peloton after some months of resting and beginning treatment as he was diagnoses with cancer last year.
"At first I as scared, I didn't know exactly what challenge I was facing. I was waiting for a complete diagnosis, psychologically it was very difficult," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "As the treatment became clearer, I began to see the glass half full: it had an immediate effect, I felt better above all for my morale. I received so many messages of affection, they helped me."
In late August of last year, Guercilena announced he was stepping down after he got diagnosed with Lymphoma. After starting his treatment phase, he has said to be motivated to return to his role within the team.
Guercilena was present at today's Trofeo Laigueglia as the team announced his return to the peloton: "After Laigueglia I hope to be at Strade Bianche and at the first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. I must say that it is very nice to be back in the races, I really missed them. I worked remotely, but our life is on the road, this is cycling!"
