With only nine stages and four major jersey competitions to settle, there is little room to recover from lost time or missed opportunities. Bonus seconds, sprint points, mountain points, breakaway moves and decisive race incidents can all produce significant changes from one day to the next.
General Classification Standings after Stage 5
The overall classification has been fully scrambled once again, following the time trial where that had already been the case.
Marlen Reusser maintains the yellow jersey, now with 12 seconds over
Demi Vollering in what is showing to be the race's decisive battle for the yellow jersey.
Katarzyna Niewiadoma, with today's top ride, has climbed three positions and has managed to get into the podium with a solid lead - 1:17 minutes behind Reusser. Behind, different battles.
Antonia Niedermaier climbed to fourth and Dominika Wlodarczyk has moved into fifth after her successful breakaway. The UAE rider is now the team's best placed rider, four seconds ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini whilst Paula Blasi is 10th.
Inbetween are Isabella Holmgren, Femke de Vries, and Cédrine Kerbaol. Anna van der Breggen has lost her place in the Top10 and is now 12th whilst
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has lost another three positions and is now 17th at a whole 5 minutes of Marlen Reusser.

Youth Classification Standings after Stage 5
The youth classification has changed hands with a spectacular stage. Antonia Niedermaier and Nienke Vinke took to the breakaway to try and create big gaps but were brought back in the end by the main GC group. However amongst each other, gaps were not huge.
Paula Blasi lost ground to Niedermaier who had been in the breakaway, and Isabella Holmgren who benefited from Vollering's attack. Niedermaier now leads with 25 seconds over Holmgren, 1:11 minutes over Paula Blasi and 1:14 minutes over Nienke Vinke.
