Thibaut Pinot has recently taken a very important win, as he bounced back from a dark period that has seen him out of the win sheets since late 2019. This wins has relaunched the Frenchman, who is said to have found new motivation towards the rest of the season.
In an interview, the French pointed out: “The past week has gone fast, we haven't really had much time to celebrate my victory in the Tour of the Alps. We quickly lost our focus on the Tour de Romandie. That victory in the Tour of the Alps is perhaps one of the most important of my career, I think it can relaunch me," he said.
On the final day of the race, Pinot braved into the breakaway once again, but this time was successful as he
won the final stage of the race into Lienz. This past week at the Tour de Romandie he was again near the front, finishing in the Top5 of stages four and five which decided the overall classification.
Quickly enough, he was asked about the
Tour de France. Pinot said that “if I can win a nice mountain stage this year, especially in the Tour de France, then my season will be a success."
However, when asked about the possibility of targeting the general classification, the Frenchman is more reserved regarding the ambitions: "Want to ride for the general classification? I think that's still a bit too much. In the Tour de Romandie I tried it but I felt it was still too much. I'm not ready to take enough risks yet. For a good result in the general classification, you have to do that."
