Jordi Meeus was one of several riders caught in the messy
conclusion to stage 3 of the
Tour de France, but the Red Bull – BORA –
hansgrohe sprinter is continuing the race, lining up for stage 4 despite
visible injuries and discomfort.
"I've felt better already,"
Meeus told Sporza.
"Although the stiffness is better than expected," he added, showing
some cautious optimism.
Meeus had been targeting a strong result before the crash
derailed his chances. "I felt a lot of pain and disappointment yesterday,
because I had the feeling that a good result was possible. That was a
shame."
While according to him the initial signs were not alarming,
concern set in once he was off the bike. "It didn't feel too bad at first,
but I was afraid I might break my collarbone when I got on the bus. Luckily,
that wasn't the case."
Though no fractures were reported, Meeus is clearly still
suffering. "My left shoulder in particular is still very painful and is
quite open. These will not be my most pleasant days."
