Tom Pidcock had a strong start to the spring and won Strade Bianche as a result. It all seemed to click for the Briton after several springs on the road, but a crash at Tirreno-Adriatico broke his rhythm as he had to skip several races as a result of a concussion.
“After my crash in Tirreno-Adriatico, I took it a bit easier for five days," Pidcock told reporters this morning at the start of Dwars door Vlaanderen. "That's not ideal, but certainly not the end of the world. The fact that I had to take some rest after the Tirreno was also not bad for me.”
Although it may see him achieve good form in time for the Ardennes classics, when it comes to his goals on the cobbled it makes things difficult. Pidcock returned to competition today at the Belgian classic where he finished third last year, in a last bid to get some race rhythm before the Tour des Flandres where he initially targeted a strong result.

“The form is quite good, but it remains to be seen. I hope to be at my strongest next Sunday. Today is good preparation. I hope my fall doesn't have too much of an impact. I'm not at my best yet, but I'm certainly not bad either. It will be all right. We have to get rid of the sprinters, so a hard race is in our favor," he concluded.
