The cards are out in the open, Tadej Pogacar is leading UAE Team Emirates at Milano-Sanremo and the team's lineup is exclusively focused on the Slovenian's chances and the climbing side of the race.
"Milan-Sanremo is a beautiful race. I know the roads well, because I live not far from them and sometimes train on the Poggio," he said in a recent interview. "I have a lot of scenarios in my head how the race could go, but it remains unpredictable and without a doubt one of the hardest races to win."
The team has clear plans of pushing the pace from early on, as it brings in a strong lineup with the likes of Felix Grossschartner, Diego Ulissi, Matteo Trentin, Alessandro Covi and Davide Formolo who should all be capable of setting a soaring pace in the Tre Capi and Cipressa. The Poggio is where the main selections will be made and the most likely spot where Pogacar looks to attack. After showing tremendous form at Paris-Nice he starts the race as one of the biggest favourites without a question.
"After a great week in Paris-Nice I'm going to recover a bit and then I'll be ready for the weekend. We have a strong team and we work well together. I think we have several options for the final," he concluded. Last year he rode to fifth position but to improve on that this year surely is a possibility.
