"Step by step building that foundation again" - Cian Uijtdebroeks seems back on the right track

Cian Uijtdebroeks has been only a shadow of the super-talented climber since last year's Vuelta a Espana. Struggling with blood flow problems, the young Belgian has raced rather sparsely this season. The up and down tendencies in his results caused by this problem are more than clear.
The 22-year-old was originally due to ride the Tour de Romandie this month, but just like many other of his appointments of 2025, also the Swiss race was removed from Uijtdebroeks' schedule to allow him to focus on recovery.
A month has passed since the young prospect's last start in the three French one-day races in Jura mountains. As of now we still don't have any information about Uijtdebroeks' programme for upcoming months, however the recent news make it seem like the Visma | Lease a Bike rider is in a better place again, as he's seen training in Andorra on his Instagram.
"The only way is up," he titles the post that sees him push it on a rainy day. Uijtdebroeks also adds a motivational "Step by step building that foundation again." Here's to hope that we get to witness this new foundation back in action at a high level sooner rather than later. So far, we can find him on the provisional startlists for Tour de Suisse and Tour de Pologne.

- It was the penultimate stage. Everyone was tired, all 3 of them. There was no way Yates could have been that much stronger than either Del Toro or Carapaz, and that was obvious from the previous stage. To top it off, Del Toro had a lead of a minute and 20 on Yates. It was a long climb, but Yates would have had to be superman to overcome even just a one minute lead on such a climb. Even with Van Aert helping Yates on the descent, there was virtually little chance that Del Toro could have lost his commanding lead. The only way that things would have turned out the way it did is if Del Toro gave up fighting before he had lost the maglia rosa, either because he had nothing more to give or convinced he had lost.. It was wrong for him to think that he had already lost the maglia rosa, and was just doing his best not to lose 2nd place. The UAE DS should have insisted that he go after Yates as best he could when it became apparent that Carapaz can not drop him, even with Carapaz on his tail. He should have shifted his focus from Carapaz to Yates at that point, and pushed as hard as he can the way he did on a previous stage where he was dropped but eventually kept the maglia rosa by a slim margin. - Yeah, we all love Wout. Regarding this victory, it was meant to be, Wout was supposed to have his Giro debut last year but had to cancel because of his accident. Visma got no GT victories in 2024 and when they finally got WVA ride la Corsa rosa he not only wins a stage but then he's crucial with helping both Simon Yates and Olav K achieve their goals. - I think del Toro was on his limit and maybe he could or maybe he couldn't have followed Yates but I think he and Carapaz didn't feel Yates would stay away.. Del Toro will have his day, he's a big talent and he's still developing. Can't wait to see this young man win a grand tour in the future.awp03-06-2025
