Stefan Küng is currently on the most versatile and valuable riders in the peloton, and despite recent interest from other teams, the Swiss powerhouse is likely to stay with Groupama - FDJ for the years to come.
The report comes from Velonews who claim that the 28-year old was looking for a three-year contract that would see him with a salary between 1..2 and 1.5 million euros per year. The current time-trial European champion, podium finisher at Paris-Roubaix, Top5 and Tour des Flandres and similar results in other classics has also taken a strong leap in the mountains this year where he's finished fifth at the Tour de Suisse.
In the other role he carries within the team, that of support, he has helped David Gaudu a lot to his fourth place at the Tour de France, giving him a critical position where the team benefits greatly on several fields from his presence. Despite this, and his contract going until 2023, he had a clause which allowed him to make an early transfer.
UAE Team Emirates and Team DSM were within the squads interested in Küng, however it is understood that he's close to re-signing or at least maintaining his current contract with Groupama - FDJ, where he's been racing since 2019.
