On the 3rd of October, Germany hosts the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro, one of the country's top races and one of the most highly-rated end-of-the-season classics, guided towards the sprinters and classics riders. We take a look at its startlist. The race is expected to start at 13:15CET and finish at 17:15CET.
Since its first edition in 2006, the Münsterland Giro has cemented its place on the German cycling calendar. It succeeded the earlier Groningen–Münster connection, and from the start the event chose Münster as finish location, while the start city rotates through Münsterland’s districts. Initially rated 1.2 on the UCI Europe Tour, the race was upgraded over time to category 1.1 and later to the higher ranks: in 2015 to HC level, and now it forms part of the UCI ProSeries.
The race will be host to 12 World Tour teams (XDS Astana Team; Team Jayco AlUla; Lidl-Trek; Alpecin-Deceuninck; Intermarché - Wanty; Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe; EF Education-EasyPost; Team Picnic PostNL; Team Visma | Lease a Bike; Soudal - Quick-Step; Cofidis and Arkéa - B&B Hotels) and also all of the top ProTeams such as Lotto, Israel - Premier Tech, Tudor Pro Cycling Team and Uno-X Mobility. This is a race with a level above some World Tour races and is easily one of the best tests of the season for the sprinters.
The fight for victory should be between those that are the strongest in the pure sprints such as Tim Merlier, Mads Pedersen, Jasper Philipsen, Jordi Meeus, Arnaud de Lie or Olav Kooij. Furthermore, the race will feature top sprinters such as Alberto Dainese, Soren Waerenskjold, Pascal Ackermann, Matteo Moschetti, Marijn van den Berg, Casper van Uden and Milan Fretin fill-up a sprinter field that is luxurious.
