The Giro dell'Emilia is one of the most prestigious races in pro cycling and it often sees many of the world's best climbers and puncheurs battle in the streets of Bologna for a victory in one of the Italian Autumn classics. We take a look at it's startlist. The race that is set to take place on the 4th of October, having an estimated start time at 10:25CET and finishing at 14:55CET.
The race has a lot of history and is certainly one for the climbers taking into consideration recent history. On paper, the short and sharp climbs favour the puncheurs, but nowadays most climbers do these sorts of ascents better than the classics specialists.
One of the most important races of the fall, it is a host to many World Tour teams, although Israel - Premier Tech will not be present due to the threats of protests in the city. Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale, INEOS Grenadiers, Bahrain - Victorious, Lidl-Trek, Team Jayco AlUla, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, XDS Astana Team, EF Education-EasyPost, Team Picnic PostNL, Team Visma | Lease a Bike, Soudal - Quick-Step, UAE Team Emirates - XRG, Groupama - FDJ, Cofidis and Movistar Team are all present, making this virtually a World Tour event with almost all teams present.
Primoz Roglic and Isaac del Toro come in as the race headliners and will be amongst the main favourites. Ben Healy and Tom Pidcock, as puncheurs, can also win this year in the absence of Pogacar. Due to the clash with the European Championships, we do not have any of the main climbers such as Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard or Remco Evenepoel present. However we will also have big figures such as Egan Bernal, Lenny Martínez, Jai Hindley, Mikel Landa, Richard Carapaz, Jay Vine and Adam Yates present in what should be a tighter race than last year where Tadej Pogacar won with ease.
