Marianne Vos extended her lead in the general classification at
La Vuelta Femenina with her first individual win of the season on a rapid day of racing that finished way ahead of schedule.
"We were very well prepared for that, but you still have to keep the focus. In the beginning it was actually very relaxed," the
Jumbo-Visma rider explained in her post-race interview. "There was little going on in the peloton. But suddenly the switch turns and it's 'get ready for the action'."
In a reverse of the stage 2 result Vos overcame yesterday's winner Charlotte Kool for the victory with Chloe Dygert coming home in third. "I feel very happy right now," Vos said with a smile. “On Tuesday we were not far off, and we knew this stage would be another chance for us. It was a tough stage with the wind, it was a constant matter of being in position and staying there."
“I am very grateful to my teammates, it is thanks to them that I was able to finish it. They made sure I was in position all day," she continues. "We're going to enjoy this for a while. Winning the team time trial was of course already very nice and now we have another stage, we should take a moment to think about that. Then we will focus again on the days to come in this Vuelta."
