Jaume Guardeno has been moved to the Clinica Guttmann in Barcelona as the Caja Rural - Seguros RGA rider begins the next stage of his recovery from the serious training crash he suffered on 31 March.
The Spanish prospect will now continue his rehabilitation under a specialist medical team at the clinic, which is recognised for neurorehabilitation and the treatment of serious neurological injuries.
The move marks the latest development in a recovery process that has been followed closely in Spain since the 23-year-old was hospitalised after the accident.
Guardeno has been recovering since a training accident on 31 March, when he crashed while out on the bike and sustained serious injuries that required hospital treatment. Earlier reports stated that he had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and had been treated in intensive care at Hospital Parc Tauli in Sabadell.

Guardeno begins next stage of recovery

Caja Rural have now confirmed that his care will continue in Barcelona, with the focus shifting towards a long rehabilitation process under neurological specialists.
The team said in its statement: “From Caja Rural - Seguros RGA we continue to send all our support and closeness to Jaume, as well as to his family and those around him, accompanying them at this difficult time.”
Both the team and Guardeno’s family also expressed thanks for the medical care he has received since the crash and during his transfer to Barcelona. In particular, they highlighted “the exquisite care received during the transfer by Servimedic medical ambulance, as well as all the care provided at the Hospital Parc Tauli in Sabadell.”

Caja Rural thank medical staff

The statement also included a special mention for the professionals involved in Guardeno’s treatment since the day of the accident. Caja Rural thanked “the HEMS helicopter emergency service; the critical and semi-critical unit of the ICU, led by doctors Andrey Rodriguez and Guillem Gruartmoner de Vera; and the entire neurosurgery and maxillofacial team.”
Guardeno will now continue his recovery in Barcelona with specialists in serious neurological injuries. For Caja Rural, his family and the wider cycling community, the focus remains firmly on his rehabilitation and the next steps in his recovery.
