Cofidis currently already employs five Spaniards, but according to latest news, plans to add even more Iberians to their roster. Marca reports that
Gorka Izagirre and
Javier Romo are on their way to the French team.
The Spanish sports newspaper reports that Gorka Izagirre's deal is 90% complete and Romo's transfer is 70% completed. Should Izagirre indeed sign with Cofidis, the 35-year-old rider will be reunited with his younger brother Ion Izagirre. The latter is currently in his second season as a French employee and still has an ongoing contract until the end of 2024.
Romo, on the other hand, is a 24-year-old Spaniard who rides for Astana Qazaqstan. The former triathlete made his professional debut on behalf of the Kazakh formation in 2021 and has achieved several nice reults in hilly and mountainous races. He recently finished 7th at Vuelta a Burgos.
Cofidis already managed to complete the arrival of Alexis Gougeard. This is offset by the departures of Simone Consonni, Rémy Rochas and Max Walscheid. José Herrada and Pierre-Luc Périchon put an end to their careers at the end of this season.
