In what has already been a tumultuous start to the 2023 Vuelta a Espana, Spanish police thankfully prevented even more drama on stage 3 by foiling an attempted oil attack.
It has now been confirmed by the police to Reuters that the group behind the attempted sabotage of the race are from a group known as CDR and have long been vocally protesting for the independence of Catalunya.
Four men in total were arrested by the Spanish police and are facing charges of public disorder, environmental crimes, road safety offences and belonging to a criminal organisation. The latest reports from The Olive Press however, seem to suggest that the four men in question have since been released from custody and been granted a restraining order against the Vuelta a Espana.
