Santiago Buitrago makes history for Colombia with a brutal third place at Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Whilst all the talk following Liège-Bastogne-Liège will be about Remco Evenepoel for his brutal victory and Tadej Pogacar for his unfortunate fall. It is worth noting the man who achieved a third placed finish, the impressive Santiago Buitrago.

The Colombian climber from Bahrain Victorious moved perfectly in the finale to arrive with podium opportunities at the end. He attacked in the last kilometres with two of the best classic riders of the moment, Ben Healy and Tom Pidcock, playing his cards right at the end with a great attack that left the EF Education-EasyPost man without options and although he could not beat Pidcock, he took a historic Liège-Bastogne-Liège podium for Colombia.
