Sagan wants to "Give back to the fans" by riding UCI Gravel World Championships

A former 3 time World Champion on the road, Peter Sagan has announced his intentions to compete in the Gravel World Championships when it comes to an as of yet unknown location in Italy. Sagan believes it will be the perfect chance to "give back to the fans."

His team TotalEnergies, have recently allowed the Slovakian to pursue opportunities in cycling away from the road and although as Sagan admits "it’s a last minute decision" he's definitive in his desire to compete, "I want to go to it. It will be difficult to arrive in the best condition to win but it’s not important for me. I want to say thank you to the people who have supported me for so long and to give back to the fans what they want. That's what’s most important.”

After competing in the electric mountain bike championships in Les Gets, France recently, Sagan had this to say despite finishing 16th “I enjoyed the atmosphere at the e-mtb race, it was fun to meet with the fans and go for the public. The result is important, yes, but to give back to the people too,”

Sagan also competed alongside teammate Daniel Oss in the 100 mile Unbound Gravel race in the US finishing 13th, 54 minutes down on the eventual winner Ethan Overson.

When asked about his recent hints at retirement, Sagan was quick to point out he was only joking “No, no I would not quit at this moment. I was just joking of course! The numbers are still good, just other guys sometimes have better numbers. I still have much more to give in cycling,”
