The Giro d'Italia 2025 is reaching its decisive moment. The penultimate week continued on Wednesday with a very deceptive stage. Isaac del Toro managed to gain 6 seconds on all his rivals - except Richard Carapaz, defending the maglia rosa.
For UAE, however, there no real gains despite Primoz Roglic being virtually isolated throughout most of the stage. The Slovenian is very much alive in the fight for the general classification, whilst Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe looks very fragile.
Speaking to Eurosport, Alberto Contador shared his opinion. On stage 11, Roglic was alone in the peloton for much of the stage. And UAE did not take advantage of that, neither for Juan Ayuso nor for Isaac del Toro:
"Primoz Roglic was left alone, with 20-25 riders in the peloton," Contador began by pointing out what a bad sign that is for the Slovenian and Red Bull - BORA. "There is still the whole Giro d'Italia ahead. That situation came about because of Egan Bernal's attack on the hardest climb of the day".
With the latter, the current Eurosport commentator makes it clear that, if UAE (or the rest of the teams in the general classification other than Red Bull - BORA) hardens the mountain stages from the beginning, Primoz Roglic will suffer a lot. While the Emirati team will still have, at the very least, Ayuso, Del Toro and Adam Yates in the group of favorites.
