After todays stage, Richie Porte holds onto the Old Willunga Hill @Strava record by just 1 second 😳😳 #TourDownUnder #CouchPeloton
Saturday's stage 5 of the 2024 Tour Down Under saw the race take to the mythical slopes of Willunga Hill. Despite the best efforts of stage winner Oscar Onley however, the Strava best time of Richie Porte continues to hold firm.
The young Brit of Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL flew up the final climb in just 6:35, taking a fabulous stage win ahead of new overall leader at the Australian stage race, Stephen Williams. Former INEOS Grenadiers and Trek - Segafredo star Richie Porte's time of 6:34, set back in 2020, still just about holds the top spot on the Strava list of fastest Willunga Hill summits though.
Also taking place on Willunga Hill today was the traditional, time-trial up the climb that brings together riders, ex-pros, fans and even a few celebrities.
In the men's time-trial, Porte was somewhat unsurprisingly victorious. In the women's event, Sarah Gigante, who took overall victory at the Women's Tour Down Under last week, added further Willunga Hill success to her palmares.
