Richard Carapaz had set his ambitions high and struck gold at the Ecuadorian national championships which took place in his hometown of Tulcán. The EF Education-EasyPost rider won on his first day with the team.
Carapaz took the best out of Caja Rural's Jefferson Cepeda in the sprint after an attacked racing, taking the national title that he will now wear over 12 months. Carapaz' team - but not to be confused - Jefferson Alexander Cepeda completed the podium. Carapaz will now be travelling to Europe where his expected first race will be at Trofeo Laigueglia.
