Results Tour of Guangxi 2026 Stage 4 - Paul Magnier takes revenge as late attackers reeled in and sprinters get another chance

Paul Magnier has won stage four of the 2026 Tour of Guangxi, besting Cees Bol, Max Kanter and Frits Biesterbos in a day that saw a strong breakaway and opportunist attackers make it hard before the peloton pulled it back for an unexpected bunch sprint.
Stage four departed from Bama and featured around 2700 meters of climbing, with some categorized climbs and a lot of rolling terrain. The main parts of the race come with just under 50 kilometers to go there will be a 2-kilometer long climb at 7% (inside a longer slight uphill drag).
Meanwhile, with 23 kilometers to go there is a sharp hilltop of 1.7 kilometers at 8.5%. This will be followed by a sharp descent and flat to the line.
The day followed a largely settled rhythm for the opening 100 kilometers as a four-rider breakaway went off the front without much of a battle. Baptiste Veistroffer, Dries de Bondt, Robbe Ghys and Enzo Paleni formed a co-ordinating breakaway who managed their energy well across the day.
Behind, the peloton were making things difficult for the sprinters as they kept the pace high, gradually bringing the breakaway's gap from four minutes down to less than two minutes over the top of the penultimate climb of the day.

As the breakaway's gap closed, two opportunists struck from the peloton with over 36 kilometres to go as Visma's Louis Barre joined Kevin Vauquelin in attacking on a rolling section before the day's final climb.
The French duo looked strong as they pushed out their advantage on the bunch, making their way across to the break and just coming short of catching them over the top of the final climb - with the peloton lingering just over 50 seconds behind.
Barre and Vauquelin made it across on the descent with over 20 kilometers still to go, giving the break a real chance to last to the finish. Meanwhile, there were splits in the peloton as the big names drove the pace. At 40 seconds behind with 20 kilometers to go, a big finale was in store.
However, after all their work to make it across, a ferocious peloton descent saw them reel in the six at the front in short order. With 14 kilometers to go, things were back together and teams reset for a reduced sprint finish as it seemed contenders like Paul magnier and Frits Biesterbos remained in the bunch.
The teams ramped up the pressure in the final kilometres and a bunch sprint became a certainty as Soudal Quick-Step hit the front inside the Flamme Rouge. Red Bull launched the sprint for Jordi Meeus, Cees Bol surged past him in the final 100 metres but in the blue points jersey it was Paul Magnier who had the strongest legs to push himself ahead and take his second win of the week.
Meeus dropped back in the final meters as Bol held firm. Biesterbos rallied late but could only take fourth as a solid sprint from Max Kanter saw him finish fourth. A crash in the finale saw some riders caught up, but they won't lose time as it was inside the safe zone.

- unpredictability is not an issue. Most riders not named Pogi have that. The excuses are and the blaming teammates and other riders for insufficient support and blocking are. if weight is an issue get a nutritionist. If aircon is not working switch rooms. Position yourself or get your teammates and DS to keep reminding you of basic stuff if it is difficult to remember in a long race.
