Team Jayco AlUla played their cards to perfection today at the
Muscat Classic, and have conquered the Middle Eastern one-day race with
Mauro Schmid, who won in a two-up sprint at the end of the race in Oman.
Baptiste Veistroffer was the only rider who set off to attack early in the day to form a breakaway, which was naturally not an obstacle for the peloton who comfortably controlled the race. There was not much story to the race as the Lotto - Intermarché rider was caught with 23 kilometers to go, as Movistar attacked the penultimate ascent to try and use their numbera. But the race was always going to come down to the final climb.
At the final climb began, Paul Double hit the front with an attack that quickly stretched out the peloton. At pace,
Adam Yates then pushed to the front, attacking with Jayco duo
Mauro Schmid and
Luke Plapp in the wheel. It was a strong attack, but the UAE rider found himself outnumbered and with a rider who had a strong sprint in the group whom he wouldn't be able to beat as well.
