Itzulia Women 2026 closed with a vibrant, nervy, high-level finale as Dominika Wlodarczyk raised her arms again, confirming that her success is no longer a surprise but a firm reality in the international peloton. The UAE Team ADQ rider sealed a second straight win and put the finishing touch on a race that nevertheless crowned Mischa Bredewold as the new queen of the Basque race.
The third and final stage was decided after 2 hours, 59 minutes and 1 second of relentless racing on Basque roads, ending in a lightning-fast, highly tactical showdown among the main favourites. Wlodarczyk once again showed ice-cold composure in the decisive metres to outkick Evita Muzic and Lauren Dickson, both from FDJ United-SUEZ, who completed the day’s podium but were again denied by the Pole’s explosiveness.
The French team’s collective work was impeccable for much of the day. Muzic and Dickson tried to harden the race in the final kilometres to isolate the leaders and force a selective finish, but Wlodarczyk absorbed every acceleration with authority unusual in such a young rider. When it mattered, the UAE Team ADQ rider launched a powerful sprint and confirmed she is in the best form of her career.
The big news for Basque cycling came with the outstanding fourth place from Usoa Ostolaza. The Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi rider went toe to toe with some of the world’s best and delivered a prestigious performance in front of her home fans. Always well placed, smart in the key moves and solid in the run-in, Ostolaza showed she continues to rise rapidly at the marquee events on the international calendar.
Also finishing in the front group were Yara Kastelijn, Mischa Bredewold, Juliette Berthet, Antonia Niedermaier, Riejanne Markus and Ricarda Bauernfeind, all credited with the winner’s time in a mass sprint among the race’s elite.
Bredewold was, in fact, the overall winner of Itzulia Women 2026. The Dutch rider from Team SD Worx - Protime managed the advantage built on previous days with intelligence and defended the lead without scares in the decisive stage. Without taking unnecessary risks, the national champion controlled every major move and sealed a final victory of great significance in an event that grows more prestigious and demanding each year.
The 2026 edition also leaves the sense that a new generation is ready to shape women’s cycling in the coming years. Wlodarczyk’s late double, FDJ United-SUEZ’s attacking verve and Bredewold’s consistency delivered a superb show at an Itzulia Women that once more confirmed the exceptional moment women’s cycling is enjoying internationally.
