The women’s peloton remains focused on a short but intense Itzulia Women 2026. After Mischa Bredewold’s opening win, Saturday brought the second and penultimate stage of the edition. It covered 138 km with a finish in Amorebieta that lived up to expectations. At the line, Dominika Wlodarczyk took the victory while Bredewold held on to the overall lead.
The UAE Team ADQ rider won the sprint after 3:46 hours of racing, sealing one of the biggest victories of her career. Wlodarczyk outkicked a reduced group of favourites in the final metres and underlined the excellent form of the Emirati squad at this start of the season.
The win came after a highly tactical day, shaped by tight control from the major teams and several selection attempts in the decisive section. None of the moves managed to break the race apart for good, and it all came down to a sprint among the strongest riders of the day. There, Wlodarczyk kept her cool and unleashed the power to raise her arms ahead of Mischa Bredewold and Shirin van Anrooij.
The presence of several big names in the top ten confirms the high competitive level of this edition. Liane Lippert looked solid again with fourth, keeping Movistar Team well placed on GC, while Letizia Borghesi completed the top five after surviving every decisive move in the finale.
One of the standout performers was also Usoa Ostolaza. The Basque rider claimed a notable sixth place in front of home fans, a result of special significance for Laboral Kutxa-Fundacion Euskadi in a race defined by the local atmosphere and strong roadside support. Her ride further confirmed the team’s ability to go toe to toe with the biggest structures in the international peloton.
Also making the front group were Caroline Andersson, Yara Kastelijn, Emilie Morier and Riejanne Markus, all on the winner’s time.
After this second stage, Itzulia Women 2026 remains wide open. Gaps are still minimal among the main contenders, and it looks likely that the climbs and long-range attacks will decide the final standings. For now, the day is marked by Dominika Wlodarczyk’s statement win, which firmly places her among the key protagonists of the race.
