Benjamin Noval won both the junior time trial and road race at the World Championships
The 2026 European Championships reach their climax this Wednesday with the time trial events. All four under-23 and junior races have now taken place, with Spain taking an incredible three gold medals.
Spain has shown great quality in the youth ranks over the World Championships, and now the same is being shown at the Europeans. Benjamin Noval Jr. and Alejandra Neira have won the junior time trials which Héctor Alvaréz doubled up on gold after also winning the road race.
The Netherlands took the only medal remaining, at the under-23 women's time trial event with Nienke Vinke, off the back of several second places.
The European Championships continue this afternoon with the men's and women's elite time trial events.

Results men's under-23 time trial 

Alvaréz stormed to victory at the time trial after also having won the road race. The Spaniard was second at both road race and time trial at the World Championships, but has now improved on each by one position.
In Slovenia, he had already shown to be perfectly adapted to the course. The Lidl-Trek rider was the fastest over the 22-kilometer long course, beating Visma's Matisse van Kerckhove by 3 seconds only to take the gold medal.
Kasper Haugland of Norway rode to third place in order to capture the bronze medal, leaving world champion Ryan Gal out of the podium by a single second.

Results women's under-23 time trial

After finishing second at the time trial world championships and second at the European Championships' road race, Nienke Vinke had a score to settle in Slovenia, and has managed to do so.
After a string of second places, the Netherlands' best against the clock proved her worth on the 22-kilometer long course and was able to take a dominant win.
The Netherlands finished first and second on the day with Vinke taking 36 seconds on her compatriot Megan Arens. Road race World Champion Viktória Chladonová was third on the day, 42 seconds back.

Results men's junior time trial

Benjamin Noval was the main favourite to take the title this Wednesday morning in Sencur, however it wasn't a victory that came in easily. The time trial World Champion was able to take the win, but by less than a second.
Malthe Risbjerg was second on the day, only a mere 0:03 seconds - a difference that could almost not be fathomed. Belgium's Vic de Smet rode to third place, capturing the bronze medal.

Results women's junior time trial

In the women's junior time trial event, world champion Alejandra Neira also took the victory. She was the first winner of the day and her success meant the Spain grabbed a full set of victories over both world and european time trial titles.
Neira was the fastest over the 22.1-kilometer long course, beating Laura Fivé and Augusté Mikutyté.
