Remco Evenepoel has taken the win yesterday in the
national championships, the time-trial discipline, which was his second time-trial triumph in the space of a week, and also his first title as an Elite rider.
“It was very hard with the heat today, I lost my bottle quite soon which wasn’t ideal, but I had an amazing bike and a good pace and could keep it the entire race," he described at the end of his effort.
Evenepoel start the effort as one of the pre-race favourites, and confirmed his status by taking a dominant win, beating teammate and defending champion Yves Lampaert to second place by 37 seconds.
"This win gives me a lot of motivation to keep working in this discipline. It’s an emotional day for me, because it showed that step by step I am returning to my top level," Evenepoel concluded. After a motivation hit in the mountains of the Tour de Suisse, the Belgian talent bounced back to take a sequence of important wins. He will soon be resting, before preparing for the final block of the season where he'll focus on the Vuelta a España.
