Remco Evenepoel on preparation to face Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard: "I have one year left to work to get closer to these two crazy people"

Remco Evenepoel will certainly ride the Tour de France in 2024, he is getting backing from Soudal - Quick-Step alongside new signings for the mountains, and on his hand he says that he is preparing and working to be able to match Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.

"We don't have a lot of concrete information on my form, but I think everything is fine. My physical condition should be good. I feel fresh and I always come out of a training camp at altitude in good shape", Evenepoel said ahead of the Clásica San Sebastián. "With the Worlds next week, I must be in better shape than at the same time last year. To be able to wrap up my rainbow year with a win here would be fantastic. Trying to win is the only special thing I want to think about."

Ilan van Wilder has proven to be a consistent and strong domestique for the mountains, and with a few more support riders the World Champion will be closer to matching the support that the two first riders of the past two Tour de France have. However matching Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates is a monumental task, Evenepoel knows that it will be very important to have the legs himself to match the duo, he feels that next year he should be able to do that - as he also prepared for a Tour de France debut.

"We will never know for this year, but we will know that probably next year. Afterwards, if we look at the watts and the figures that have appeared, these are values that I have already reached, but they are emerging. after day. What is certain is that the level has been incredible. I have one year left to work to get closer to these two crazy people. I hope to fight with them next year," he concludes.
