Remco Evenepoel loses key domestique to broken collarbone on eve of biggest GC test yet at 2024 Tour de France

Remco Evenepoel has impressed in the early stages of the 2024 Tour de France. Ahead of the first high mountain challenge at the Col du Galibier on stage 4 however, the Soudal - Quick-Step team has been dealt a blow.

One of Evenepoel's key domestiques in a team built solely around the Belgian, Casper Pedersen has been forced to abandon the Tour de France with a broken collarbone after being caught up in a late crash towards the bunch sprint finale of stage 3 in Torino, won in history making style by Biniam Girmay.

"Unfortunately, Casper Pedersen suffered a collarbone fracture that forces him to leave the 2024 Tour de France," writes the official social media pages of the Soudal - Quick-Step team post-stage 3. "He will undergo further examination at the hospital in Herentals where he'll be assessed and a course for his further medical treatment and recovery will be decided. Speedy recovery!"
