In 2024
Remco Evenepoel will make his Tour de France debut. The time-trial World Champion will then have a different calendar in the spring with more possibilities and he shares what he's thinking about for the first half of 2024.
“The team still has to decide, but I will probably resume around February 15 to 20. And maybe I'll add another Monument," Evenepoel told Het Laatste Nieuws. He was satisfied but not completely content with 2023, having his Grand Tours wrecked by specific days. Now seemingly having the Jumbo-Visma/Soudal - Quick-Step merger rumours behind, the 2024 season seems to be back on track and he will aim for the Grand Boucle in July together with Mikel Landa and Ilan van Wilder.
In the spring he will not be building towards the Giro d'Italia, unlike 2021 and 2023. He'll have more room to choose goals and aim specifically for them before resting and preparing for the Tour. “UAE Tour – Paris-Nice could be a nice first combination block in that sense. Then it is time to move towards the classics via an altitude training period." His goal: "Definitely LBL."
"UAE Tour as a 'warm-up', Paris-Nice 'before the serious'. I also want to add the Flèche Wallonne and the Gold Race to my list of achievements someday, but I don't know if that will be before next year. Perhaps the cancellation of the Giro will offer more room to race in March or April. We'll see."
