Primoz Roglic: "It was a beautiful day for us"

Primoz Roglic and Jumbo-Visma have had a Vuelta a Espana filled with ups and downs. Although the Slovenian has lost Affini and main-man Sepp Kuss as support, he has managed to inflict damage in the mountains today as he attacked Remco Evenepoel sucessfully.

“It was a beautiful day for us. Sometimes you lose time; sometimes you gain time. Today it was me who gained time," Roglic said after the finish. After Robert Gesink and Chris Harper worked to set up the final ascent, Roglic attacked in the final five kilometers of the stage. What was a short gap quickly grew into something meaningful as Remco Evenepoel was dropped out of the GC group, and Roglic's tilt for the red jersey suddenly improved exponencially.

Roglic found an ally in Miguel Ángel López, who helped him put on 28 seconds in Enric Mas and 48 on Evenepoel, as he crossed the line in third place. He's significantly cut the gap to the Belgian, with 1:49 minutes now separating the two after the 14th stage.

"Hopefully I can continue this trend because I'm starting to feel better. My teammates have done a great job and I am happy to be part of this team. Madrid is still a long way to go and we must keep fighting," he concluded. Tomorrow more decisions are to be made at SIerra Nevada, with noewhere to hide.
