Preview Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana 2026 - Will Remco Evenepoel take victory on hilly classic?

The third event out of the Challenge Mallorca is the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, which will take place on the 30th of January. The race is estimated to start at 12:20CET and finish at 16:05CET. We preview the race ahead.

The Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana is the third round of the Challenge Mallorca this year and is one of the main early-season climbing tests, providing opportunities for the riders to take on longer ascents still in the month of January. Since its inception, the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana has featured a rich variety of winners with Alejandro Valverde, Philippe Gilbert, Paolo Bettini and Fabian Cancellara all amongst the luxurious palmarès being part of that list.

Belgian climber Tim Wellens has been one of the race’s most consistent performers, with multiple memorable victories on the demanding course in past editions. Other notable winners include Kobe Goossens who triumphed in 2023; Lennert Van Eetvelt who overcame stiff competition to take the 2024 edition ahead of Aleksandr Vlasov and Brandon McNulty. Last year Tudor's FLorian Stork rode to a career-changing maiden win on the streets of Mallorca.

The race is one that is marked by the mountains, but the change of course this year may alter its dynamic quite a bit. The riders will be climbing the Coll de Puig Major, however through its easy side, including an incredibly technical descent and then the 8-kilometer long Coll de Soller. However, these finish at 50 kilometers from the finish and there is a long flat section, which may not encourage long-distance attacks.

However the race now finishes in the Santuari de Lluc, a downhill finish that comes right after the ascent to Coll de sa Batalla - 8.4 kilometers at 4.9%. It's a race where climbers and puncheurs will come together and battle it out on what might be a very tactical finish.
