On the 29th of January we've got the first of the Mallorca classics. The Trofeo Calvia, every year the first of the 'trophies', is a race designed for the classics riders and is always very open for surprise results. We preview the race ahead.

The first of the races on the Spanish island is one without any true favourites in fact. It's a race that's only 149 kilometers in distance, at the start of the year, with a profile that makes it virtually impossible for any team to control. Truly, a race made for aggressive racing, taking risks and going on the attack early.

Breakaway riders can succeed in this hilly profile, as the race goes over small but constant climbs all day long. 3000 meters of climbing on a day fully on technical roads. The riders face climbs as long as 7.7 kilometers in distance, whilst the period between 36 and 16 kilometers to go features three small ascents each separated by a small descent where the winning moves may come. If not, then it is possible to have a small group sprint as the riders return to Palmanova, where they began their race earlier in the day.
