On the 3rd of August the racing calendar continues in the Basque Country as the riders tackle the
Circuito de Getxo. The day after the mythical Clàsica San Sebastiàn, the riders face another hilly race with the steep and explosive climbs that give the region some of it's fame. We
preview the race ahead.
The classic sees 175 kilometers on the road in explosive and treacherous Basque roads. Another mixed day where climbers and puncheurs will take over the reigns but a lot can happen. It's a day for classics specialists but also climbers and very much depends on how the peloton tackles the climbs throughout the day.
The race sees a circuit with a few small but punchy climbs, but then in it's second half the riders will climb the Alto de Pike (2.1Km; 9.3%) which has been made even more famous by it's use on the opening day of the 2024 Tour de France.
The finale is not one where a regular sprint will ever take place because besides the hilly circuit that the riders find, the final 700 meters also feature a 7% climb which will make things a lot harder for everyone fighting for a result.
Bilbao - Getxo, 175.8 kilometers
This is going to be a race where UAE Team Emirates are the clear favourites to win, having thr quality but also the quantity behind them with a very strong squad consisting of the same leaders as in San Sebastian with the exception of Jan Christen. This means they should attack quite a lot and have men for different scenarios whilst the likes of
Quinn Simmons, Alex Aranburu or a few Movistar outsiders are the main opponents for such a win.
