Pello Bilbao have since 2020 collaborated with very strong results, and the Basque climbers is set to prolong his stay all the way into 2024, the team announced.
“I was able to ride all races with one hundred percent commitment," the 32-year old said in a video where the renewal was revealed. "We have had good results with the team, including Matej Mohorič, who won Milan-Sanremo, and Mikel Landa's third place in the Giro."
He has taken wins at the Tour of the Alps, Itzulia Basque Country and Deutschland Tour, and has been very consistent over both stage-races and one-day races across the years, also with evolution on his sprint seeing him take important wins this year. Besides his personal success, he has also worked towards leaders such as Mikel Landa, having contributed to collective success of the team.
Bilbao has twice finished the Giro d'Italia in the Top5 in his stay so far - 2022 included. This year he has also finished on the podium of the UAE Tour, Tour de Pologne and Deutschland Tour, Top5 of Strade Bianche, Itzulia Basque Country and Tour of the Alps, and in the Top10 of Tirreno-Adriatico and the GP de Montréal, bringing in an hefty amount of results, points and exposure to the team.
“It was an easy decision. I feel very much at home here. I get to work with very good riders. I don't mind riding for them. This is really the best place for me," he concluded. Bilbao will specifically be eyeing the Grand Depart in 2023 where the Tour de France has it's start in the city of Bilbao.
