Pello Bilbao wins stage 3 at Tour Down Under as Jay Vine soars into race lead

Stage 3 of the Tour Down Under saw the riders go up the Corkscrew climb which proved vital, and race leader Rohan Dennis was distanced as Jay Vine attacked and took over the race lead. Pello Bilbao took the stage win.

The day was nervous with several crashes, however it all came down to the final climb. Jay Vine once again attacked the field making the difference, initially followed by Simon Yates only. Pello Bilbao joined the duo before the summit of the climb as the rest of the field had been distanced.

The trio worked together to extend the gap and arrived at the finish 28 seconds before the peloton, a big gap which has seen them all jump into the first three positions in the GC.

Bilbao was the fastest in the downhill sprint, beating Simon Yates as Vine pushed to create as big of a gap as possible. Michael Matthews led in a decently sized peloton.
