The queen stage was bittersweet for Oscar Onley of team DSM, who was once again defeated by Tour de France winner Jonas Vingeggard. He finished second behind Vingegaard and holds third position in GC.

“We were expecting a hard stage today,” said Onley. He continues, “ It was exactly that, where we managed to get myself, Chris and Max in the front group after the climb. Max did a really good job protecting us and maintaining the gap before myself, and Chris opened up the final. I gambled in the final to make sure we caught Rolland, but Vingegaard came round me again in the finish.”

Coach Wilbert Broekhuizen is not disappointed though, he is happy to see his riders progress and jump in GC ranking. “It was a man-to-man fight for the win on the last climb and Oscar could once again go for the win and battle against the Tour de France winner. He was really close to it so he is a bit disappointed that he couldn’t take the stage win but it is still a really nice result.  The guys gave it their all today so we can’t ask for more,” concluded Broekhuizen.
