Orluis Aular of Caja Rural - Seguros RGA has sprinted to victory at Trofeo Matteotti 2024, following a late attack that split the peloton.
Nine riders got themselves up the road and into the day's breakaway. Among them, the likes of Andrii Ponomar (Team Corratec - Vini Fantini), Andrea Pietrobon (Team Polti Kometa), Simon Carr (EF Education-EasyPost) and Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè). With 45km still to go though, they were all swallowed up by the peloton.
Heading onto the final lap, another counter attacking group of around 10 riders had a small gap at the front and in the end, victory went to that group in the form of Orluis Aular.
