The last stop before the second monument of the season, the Tour of Flanders, comes at the Dwars door Vlaanderen, which takes place this Wednesday, April 2. The race will feature Wout van Aert as the main star, but the races has suffered from a number of last minute withdrawals.
Oier Lazkano, probably the great hope of Spanish cycling to try to win the race, has had to withdraw from the classic tomorrow. The Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider will be absent due to the low state of form in which he is due to having chained several illnesses over the past few weeks.
This was confirmed by the German team itself after announcing its line up for the race. In addition, speaking to Sporza, Red Bull - BORA sport director Heinrich Haussler said, "At the second training camp Oier got sick for the first time. That disrupted his build-up to the season."
"After the opening weekend, Oier fell ill again. Then he went on an altitude training camp, where he fell ill again," Haussler says.
"Then you notice that his base is too thin to be competitive in the classics."
