Niki Terpstra won the third round of the
Gravel World">Trek UCI Gravel World Series, coming to the line alone after leaving his breakaway teammates to gain a full run to the line at the Wish One Gravel event in Millau, France.
The Tour of Flanders winner had been working out front with Australian multi-discipline racer Adam Blazevic, and Dutch rider Piotr Havik (Westland Wil Vooruit). The three outpaced their competitors on the 130km race, which began with a difficult rise to the east from Millau before continuing through the Aveyron region's woodlands and farmland. However, the group eventually broke, and Terpstra took the lead as they headed to the finish line under the towering Millau Viaduct, a cable-stayed bridge spanning more than 2km.
The UCI Gravel World Series will continue in Poland on Saturday, June 18, before returning to the United States on June 25 in Fayetteville.
