Filippo Ganna couldn't quite match his heroic performance from Milano-Sanremo at the 2nd Monument of the season. Nevertheless, an 8th placed finish at the 2025 Tour of Flanders remains a mostly positive result for the INEOS Grenadiers powerhouse.

Despite coming home in 8th, 2:19 down on the eventual race winner Tadej Pogacar however, Ganna admitted he leaves Flanders more with disappointment than contentedness with his result. “Our leader today was Magnus Sheffield,” he commented after the race, speaking to our microphones. “Our goal was to position ourselves ahead of the big favourites and be in front before the Oude Kwaremont. Unfortunately, we spent a lot of energy on that move, and then Magnus crashed on the cobbles. Now we hope to recover well for next week. Our goal was to stay at the front and try to save energy to be as fresh as possible, but my legs didn’t respond as I’d hoped; I suffered a lot today.”

Ultimately though, the 28-year-old admits that a top-10 was realistically the best finish available to him on the day. “I followed what we had planned and did my job,” concludes Ganna, who now turns his attention towards next weekend at the iconic cobbles of Paris-Roubaix 2025.
