In a chaotic finale to stage 2 at the 2025 Tour de Suisse, EF Education-EasyPost's Vincenzo Albanese powered to the victory, securing his first win at World Tour level and the first success since signing for EF at the start of 2025.
"Yeah, for me it's very, very important victory," reflected a beaming Albanese in his post-stage interview afterwards. "My first victory in World Tour and I'm very, very happy. I say thanks to all my team. Was a fantastic job from the start to the finish and yeah, I'm very, very happy."
In a chaotic finale, there were attacks and a distinct lack of sprint trains at the front of the peloton, but through it all Albanese stayed focused. "Yeah, Jan Christen, attacked at two kilometres more or less, and Neilson Powless closed the gap. And in the last kilometre Quinn Simmons and another guy attacked, and I followed Simmons," reflects the Italian. "Then I sprinted from 200 meters to the line."
And as mentioned, it marks the first win of Albanese's time at EF Education-EasyPost. "Now is an important moment for us, because in two or three weeks start the Tour de France," he concludes. "I'm very happy and we'll see about the next days."
