Wednesday, October 18 has been a big day of announcements from Movistar Team ahead of the upcoming 2024 season. The Spanish cycling team has just confirmed the signing of Pelayo Sanchez until 2025.
The 23-year-old Spanish rider arrives directly from Burgos BH, the team he belonged to since 2021, after a great 2023. Earlier this year he won the final stage of the Vuelta a Asturias in Oviedo. In addition, he was on the podium in the overall of the Portuguese GP Beiras. In the last edition of the Vuelta a España, Pelayo completed a great performance, including a podium (in Guadarrama) and a sixth place (Laguna Negra) that would allow him to finish 37th overall.
"Making the jump to the WorldTour is always an aspiration when you are a professional cyclist, and being able to move to the home team is a privilege. I'm looking forward to meeting the new teammates and staff and try to give the best of me in these next few years of 'blue'," said Pelayo Sanchez in the official Movistar press release of his signing.
"This stage in Burgos BH has allowed me to accumulate a lot of experience and find my place in the peloton, improve both athletically and mentally. This year I was able to experience a leap in quality that allowed me to compete in important races and get that victory in Asturias. The goal has to be to continue learning in these years and maintain the upward trend; also to help the team, to continue achieving joys, and, why not, also achieve some success as an individual," he concluded.
