Maxim van Gils has been a name on the lips of many cycling fans over the last week or so, ever since it was revealed that the Belgian of Lotto Dstny was going to be breaking his contract and looking to force a move elsewhere.
Now, it finally seems we have come clarification on just where Van Gils will ride in 2025, as according to multiple reports, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have secured the services of the 25-year-old former Saudi Tour winner, with the ambitious team of Ralph Denk fighting off some strong competition from across the peloton for the talented Belgian prospects signature.
Despite Van Gils contract with Lotto Dstny having initially been set to last until the end of 2026, he has received the green light from the sport's governing bodies to activate a move elsewhere against his team's wishes, although financial compensation will partly soften the blow.
For Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe meanwhile, when Van Gils' signing becomes official, the Belgian will become the ninth new addition for 2025, following the likes of Laurence Pithie, Oier Lazkano, Gianni Moscon, Finn Fisher-Black, Giulio Pellizzari, Jan Tratnik and the twin brothers, Mick and Tim Van Dijke, further strengthening the depth in one of the strongest squads in the entire World Tour.
