Matteo Sobrero on new teammate Primoz Roglic: "It is the biggest transfer of the year. I'm really looking forward to racing with him"

BORA - hansgrohe has signed several big figures into the 2024 season but most notably Primoz Roglic. Fellow signing Matteo Sobrero takes motivation from that and considers it the transfers of the year - as many do.

“It is the biggest transfer of the year. I'm really looking forward to racing with him, to see what that's like. And why not get some great results with him and the team?” Sobrero told Wielerflits. The Italian has spent two years with Team Jayco AlUla and further developed his skills as a rouleur and time-trialist. He's now going to be an important figure for the German team in search of more success and also as a possible quality domestique.

The 26-year old was close on three occasions to winning at this year's Itzulia Basque Country where he impressed. He did win at the Tour of Austria later in the year and had his freedom, but looked for a new challenge and BORA had the interest in signing a quality rider such as him.

He will hunt stage results for himself in the first half of the season but is quite open to becoming a domestique for the many Grand Tour specialists that the German team has. “I hope to at least start with a good spring, including the Ardennes classics, and achieve some results for myself there. Then will follow the Grand Tours, where I will help the classification guys," he concludes.
