Mathieu van der Poel headlines; Jasper Philipsen rested as Alpecin-Deceuninck reveal Amstel Gold Race lineup

As Alpecin-Deceuninck prepare for their attempt to make it four successive monument victories to start this season at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, they have announced their lineup for the Amstel Gold Race.

As expected, Mathieu van der Poel leads the way for the team and will start as the heavy favourite for victory in the absence of the likes of Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar among others. Notably though, van der Poel's partner in crime, Jasper Philipsen is absent from the lineup.

"And hops, we have entered the Ardennes Classics. Sunday we head to Limburg for the Amstel Gold Race, the Netherlands’ biggest cycling classic," Alpecin-Deceuninck write via their official Instagram account. "Mathieu van der Poel is logically our leader, with a strong squad in support. Not there on Sunday: Jasper Philipsen. After a fantastic spring with wins in Milano-Sanremo and Classic Brugge de Panne and podium spots in Paris-Roubaix and Scheldeprijs, Jasper now gets a well deserved rest. Then he can work towards Le Tour de France, his 2nd goal of the year."

Alpecin-Deceuninck for Amstel Gold Race 2024:

Mathieu van der Poel, Soren Kragh Andersen, Quinten Hermans, Axel Laurance, Xandro Meurisse, Oscar Riesbeek and Gianni Vermeersch.
