Marc Hirschi wins season debut at Per Sempre Alfredo

UAE Team Emirates have taken their 20th win of the season today in Italy as Marc Hirschi took a win on his first day of racing in 2022. The Swiss puncheur has had a late start to the season due to a hip surgery but has came back in form and just in time for the Ardennes classics.

The day after Milano-Sanremo, and on the even of the Volta a Catalunya - aswell as the upcoming classics period - the men's peloton has had a calmer day where many of the world's best took time to rest. In Italy however, some World Tour teams took to the start of the puncheur-friendly Per Sempre Alfredo.

The 172-kilometer race was defined on the climbs, as Marc Hirschi delivered the decisive move in the final climb (3.6Km at 6.1%) and went on to arrive at the finish solo with a small but sufficient winning gap. Dion Smith and R´émy Mertz completed the podium leading in the chasing group that finished 3 seconds behind.
