Maglia Rosa wearer Andreas Leknessund evaluates his Giro d'Italia: "I came to this Giro without any expectations"

Andreas Leknessund made a name for himself at Giro d'Italia 2023. The Team DSM rider became a surprising Maglia Rosa wearer on stage 4, but he didn't stop there. The Norwegian fought on against the best GC riders, and finished 8th overall in the end.

"I came to this Giro without any expectations. I just wanted to run offensively and have a good race," Leknessund explains on Team DSM's website.

"But I conquered the pink jersey on the 4th stage, which was incredible, and then I transformed myself into a general classification rider. It was not the initial plan and I certainly did not expect this. that it's possible. It's been a difficult three weeks, but also very nice with the team. Considering my expectations before the Giro, finishing in the top 10 is hard to describe. I'm really happy," he concludes.
