Lukas Postlberger might miss the rest of this season after Bemer Cyclassics crash

The question is whether Lukas Pöstlberger will play this season. Jayco AlUla's 31-year-old Austrian crashed during the BEMER Cyclassics on Sunday and had to be taken to hospital. His team confirms that Pöstlberger has broken his collarbone.

It concerns a fracture in his right collarbone, according to Pöstlberger's Australian employer who ventiled the news via Twitter. The experienced rider goes under the knife in his homeland Austria. It is still too early to say anything about his recovery period, and when he will be able to train seriously again.

The question is also whether Pöstlberger will still be in action this season, or whether he has already ridden his last race of 2023. The Austrian has currently done 54 race days. For example, he rode several classics in the spring and was part of Jayco AlUla's selection for the Giro d'Italia. He also managed to bring the Italian grand tour to a successful conclusion.

The unfortunate Pöstlberger is in his first season for Jayco AlUla, before that he spent seven seasons for BORA-hansgrohe. The rider still has a contract with his current team until the end of 2024.
