💬 "Franziska Koch did an amazing job, controlling the break from almost the beginning. I’m really proud of her." - @lorenawiebes Read more from another impressive team victory at #TDFF on stage 5 today. 💪🏻
Lorena Wiebes has once again proved herself the fastest sprinter in Tour de France Femmes. Team DSM rider secured her second stage victory in the tour today.
"When I started the sprint, it felt good," Wiebes told NOS. She continues, “I am happy that I could sprint like that. It felt good. I am happy with that. I didn't expect to still have this power after 175 kilometers."
Wiebes also stopped herself from making the same mistake as Elisa Longo Borghin, who took the wrong turn in the last kilometer. "Fortunately, I can find my own way in a sprint and also know how to position myself well. I learned that in my time at Parkhotel-Valkenburg. We had looked at the course well and knew it was a right-left combination. I shouted that they had to go right. But the fact that I was able to win is great. I'm glad I was able to finish," said Wiebes.
But Wiebes will have to take a back seat as the tour approaches the hilly stage. She is satisfied with the green jersey for the time being. "It would be nice to take home the green jersey. I've caught up a bit now, but the difference with Marianne is still quite big. Tomorrow's stage is perhaps something for an escape group, but maybe we can still go for it", concluded Wiebes.
